A of yesterday at 4pm the scoter was still present and close to the south
shore. No sign of the many Surf Scoters that were seen on the day before
Halloween, but winds were nasty so who knows. Also the Brant was at still
at Houts in Loveland at 5:30pm, sadly I think it will be it's last stop...
Just to clarify my first post today. I was insinuating the Brant could die
there. It had a slight limp yesterday and has been in the same 100 yard
radius the last few times I've been out there. I could be totally wrong in
saying this but it just seems like easy prey... Of course I hope this is
not

After searching for three hours this morning, I was finally able to re-find
the Black Scoter at Timnath Reservoir today (Saturday) around noon. It was
in the northeast end, a long scope view from the old concrete boat ramp on
the northern part of the west side.
Thanks,

COBirders,
I spent a few hours at Big Johnson reservoir this morning and while standing
there I had AMERICAN PIPITs, HORNED LARKs and a single SNOW BUNTING. The Snow
Bunting was calling and flying northwest with the flock. I have no idea if the
bird will make it back to the reservoir or not.
Stan Oswald and I birded around Pueblo Reservoir and Pueblo City Park this
morning.
Pueblo Reservoir:
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 first year at South Shore Marina tires
Common Loon - 4 (the most I've seen this fall so far here)
Franklin's Gull - 1
American White Pelican - 16
Bonaparte's Gull -
Greetings All
Methinks that the Brant inhabiting Houts Reservoir is a Gray-bellied Brant.
This population is regulated by USFWS and is treated like a subspecies but has
yet to receive a trinomial Latin name. They breed in the Western Canadian High
Arctic and winter in Washington's northern
My wife and I had a great trip north this morning where we were able to add two
lifers to our lists. The first was the Brandt at Houts Lake (Larimer County
east of Loveland) amongst the racers running the perimeter at about 9:15. The
second was the Little Gull at Terry Lake (north of Longmont
The weather for the DFO mountain lakes trip today was beautiful. Too nice. No
major cold fronts lately, and bird numbers reduced from last weekend. Still we
found some nice birds.
Eleven Mile Reservoir:
Surf Scoter - 1
Black Scoter - 1
Common Loon - 4
Lapland Longspur - 2

Hi Everyone-
Today 11/3, I went to City Park, Cherry Creek, and Chatfield. At City Park,
the Black Scoter was asleep until close to 10, but did finally wake up and
do some diving. I also saw two Greater Scaup and a Cackling Goose there. At
Cherry Creek, I saw Common Loon from the little
Jon Rouse and I travelled to Pueblo Reservoir and the various other areas
around the reservoir and in Pueble.
Here is what we saw enroute, while in Pueblo, and on our way home.
On the way from Colorado Springs:
Rock Dove
Red-tailed hawk
European Starlings
Mourning Doves
Northern Flicker
Mallard
Birders,
Today on our way to a house warming in Saudi Aurora, Tammy spotted a group
of hawks sitting on the ground in a plowed field with lots of prairie dogs
and burrows. We stopped and found 9 Ferruginous Hawks sitting in a group.
5 flew and 4 stayed in a group.
The location was on 6th ave
