Birders,
Afflicted with "Flatland Fever" (when you're a mountain person, but live
on the plains), I headed to Picketwire Canyon in the Comanche Grasslands
south of La Junta. I found the tonic I needed hiking down Withers
Canyon, and up the other side of the canyon to secret cliffs, arches and

Sunny weather, low wind and cold temps. There are about a ~dozen
observers. Total of 28 species by my count.
Highlights include:
- Short-eared Owl - Hwy 85/Weld CR 114 about .5m east in south field
(Mark A on way in, "somehow" I missed it in front of Mark A)
- Eastern Bluebird
Birders,
All of the above are present at the house this morning.
On the Rosy-Finch front, I have seen only Gray-crowned but there is about
15 birds so there may be something else mixed in.
