Today I was out walking along my patch, the South Platte River Trail from
Bowls upstream to Northern Wildlife Area, and on my way back home I saw
four birds fly into a tree, I at first thought them Western Bluebirds but
quickly realized they were in fact *Eastern Bluebirds*. That was a patch

About a dozen Mountain blBluebirds were moving through the Blue Skies Park and
Skyline High School area in west Longmont yesterday and today.
It’s also a female northern harrier working the area just east of all that
development that’s going in.

This afternoon there was a lone male Red Breasted Merganser among about 50
common mergansers on the eastern pond, just south and east of the Fort Collins
bike trail parking lot on Taft Hill Road. The eastern pond is the second pond
south of the bike trail, between the bike trail and Lincoln
A couple weeks ago I had a female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in my yard for
just a few minutes -- then it was gone. Today I saw (just as briefly) what
I assume is the same bird. Female Sapsucker, no red on the nape and I
think (but am not sure) I caught a glimpse of a white throat. It seems to

I haven't seen any reports yet this year so this may be the 1st day back
for the Osprey at Lagerman. It was actively defending the platform from
nearby Bald Eagles more intent on prairie dogs I presume.
There was also a flock of 21 Mountain Bluebirds on the west side and a

A brief stop at the Cherry Creek SP Marina just before sunset yielded thousands
of gulls. The lighting was low, and I am not great with gull identification,
but I did pick out at least 5 lesser black backed gulls. Also present were
dozens of herring sized gulls, and one immature gull that
