Manager of the Wild Birds Unlimited informed my photographer friend this
week that the Westminster white red-tailed hawk was found dead. He said the
body will be sent for autopsy.
Explains why I hadn't seen it last week.

I went birding this morning with a friend at Timnath Reservoir, originally
expecting to see only migration shorebirds, but along the northern shore
where there are clusters of dense trees, we were pleasantly surprised to
discover some early fall warbler migrants!
We started at
Numbers and variety of our normal neighborhood birds (house finches,
goldfinches, hummers, crows, towhees, etc) seem normal. A brood of house
finches must have just fledged - in the past week or so we've had about 10
hanging out around the feeder all day.

Breeding season has mostly ended. Birds sing during the breeding season or
leading up to it, so most song has now tapered off or ended. Breeding birds are
now dispersing. Some birds are entering their annual molt and become more
secretive. In residential areas, this spells fewer bird detections.
While traveling from Amarillo back to Denver I took the opportunity to stop
off at Lamar CC for a quick walk on Sunday around 12:30. While approaching
the signs to the trail at the north parking lot, I heard a two-tone whee -
