I also had the same thing at least 4 years ago and thought the same as you. I
gave up on the thistle. They come to my shelled sunflower seeds regularly.

I saw the BTGW this morning about 10:30 at the Denver Audubon Nature Center,
east side of the trail between the amphitheater and the restrooms by the ponds.
It was with chickadees, yellow rumps, and an Orange-crowned Warbler feeding in
the cottonwoods. Not seen since.

I see Townsend Solitaires squabble a lot in the winter as they are very
protective of their winter food sources. I've had two locked together fall at
my feet while hiking at Deer Creek Canyon.

On the walk with Joey Kellner at Chatfield SP this morning, I located a Little
Blue Heron at the south end of the reservoir. See Joey's eBird report for the
Original Heronry Overlook. When last seen it was hunting near a handful of
Snowy Egrets.

breeding near here to see a youngster this early.

These are water fowl, which may be susceptible to the avian flu they're very
worried about. I think CPW wants to know about this level of fatalities.

Why do you doubt Virginia's? I've seen them in the suburbs in early fall,
especially in brushy areas around water. Have you also considered Nashville.?I
find them very similarly this time of year and have seen both together in the
fall as well.

normally associate them with nesting higher in the foothills. Is this lower

I just had a House Finch with a sever case of Avian Pox show up at my feeders
this morning. I know I need to clean everything with a bleach solution.
My question: How long should I leave them down to hopefully discourage her from
coming back and infecting all the other birds?

Had 2 Mtn Chickadees in amongst a small mixed flock of Orange-crowned,
Yellow-rumped, and Wilsons Warbles in my conifers in Littleton. Fall is

Just had 4 Cassin's show up on the porch picking up overspill from the feeders.
Was just reading about them being in Golden, so they're moving into the
suburbs. Keep your eyes peeled.

Thank you for the reminders, Alison.
I have taken to enjoying watching from my yard a pair of Cooper' Hawks and a
