Hi Co-birders:
On the evening of August 11 I saw at least two migrating Black Swifts out in
Rye, shortly before sunset (About 7:30 P.M.) They circled over a small pond
giving me excellent looks at fairly close range. Two individual birds flew over
one at a time first. Then a little later I

First off, I too have witnessed a couple of Sharp-shinned/Magpie
confrontations which I thought remarkable enough at the time to record. The one
I remember best was a Sharp-shinned I came across one time sitting on the

passed on the gulls.

from here.)

Perhaps it wasn't such a big deal. But it sure was to me-since the only
other place I've seen a Horned Grebe in breeding plumage was Alaska! Only
its neck still had some white on it-the rest of the bird was WOW! Mymm

I agree with Cecile Lee that the winter wren that's recently been hanging
around the dry irrigation ditch at Fountain Creek Nature Center is the eastern
subspecies. I also had excellent looks at it on December 17th and heard it call
briefly. It's quite light from under the chin, d
conditions change, the bird keeps using the same mechanism...so there's
something innate that's driving it, rather than the current environmental cues
it's getting as to the location of the sun, etc. I don't understand the

the coming of the July monsoons? (Which Pueblo has had a lot of lately) Seemed
odd for him to be singing so late...or even here! But perhaps the
Cassin's/Botteri's July breeding thing is going on in Colorado too, now? N
est and trying again!Since Margie's Pueblo county birds
were both seen to the east of mine, that would make sense! I am wondering
though, where you heard a Harris' Sparrow singing in Colorado Bill?! I've only
