It was close enough to the highway that I could tell it wasn’t a kestrel,
plus it was sitting up straight, not bent over like a kestrel; however, it
was about the same size as a kestrel.

A few minutes ago a Bay-Breasted Warblef was singing from my maple tree.
Trying to find it.
I suspect that the “late” warblers are now migrating west through.
Many people scan it head this high pitched song.

At the top of Mountain Base Road, I heard an eastern Blue Jay calling from
an aspen grove! I've never heard one before in Golden Gate Canyon SP, and
I lived just north of it for 25 years and have birded there often since
moving to Louisville. The two Steller's Jays that I saw were quiet.

It was a cold, snowy late May (1-2 feet of snow on May 30 in the foothills
above 8500' in the foothills S and SW of Boulder). Golden Gate Canyon
State Park had 18" in one storm and 6" the next day. I suspect this also
has something to do with the breeding juncos in Denver.

Bird Count, complete with a count circle divided into areas that birders
adopt. We expanded to all four seasons for 30 years, and now continue as a
Summer (Breeding) Count. This year will

Another new bird for this Spring that I saw this morning was a Spotted
Sandpiper on Lake 4 with a Killdeer, a Greater Yellowlegs, and several
snipe.
Amazingly, the Spotted Sandpiper is not on the eBird list for this area.

I was greeted by a calling, flying Greater Yellowlegs at Pond 1 at dawn.
Shortly after, a Swainson’s Hawk flew over very low. Flock of a dozen snipe and
Spotted Sandpiper at pond 4. All three teal species.
Very very cold due to north wind. First time I was the only car parked here.

I had only my second Mountain Chickadee in 16 years early this morning at both
my suet and seed feeders. It seemed to be quite hungry. At one point, it
actually knocked a starling off a suet feeder in order to eat!

A dead house wren was found by a friend inside her suet cage feeder yesterday
morning in NW Boulder.

The second bird could be a Brewer’s Sparrow, timberline race (?). I saw
several yesterday in the foothills of Boulder County.
