While walking the dog at Martin Lake, Lathrop State Park, we saw what we
thought was 10 swans all huddled together far out on the ice...it was not until
the they all, very briefly, simultaneously lifted their heads that we counted
11! Too far away and no vocalizations were made, so not even
Went out to John Martin Reservoir this morning. Was a great birding day!
Red-throated Loon (a lifer for Paul), Least Terns, one Piping Plover...who was
about 500 yards outside the nesting area, Marbled Godwits, a lone Least
Sandpiper...all in the same place!

This morning I had set the goal for myself to sit on the side porch and try
identify all the birds I was hearing by song. All my best intentions flew out

We took Hwy 12 home and decided, even though it was 2:30 pm, to stop at the
site just out of Trinidad for HEPATIC TANGER that was seen there by a CFO

Rouse Road to check for Hepatic Tanager...were rewarded with wonderful views.
Too far for photographs...but we're able to watch it for around 15 minutes!
