Yesterday I saw my first fall migrating Western Tanager just east of Canon City along the Arkansas River. This species nests just to the west ( south north) of Canon City in just a little higher elevation so we see them during spring and fall migrations. I also saw my first dark ibis of fall

I birded the east end of the Canon City Riverwalk this morning. A small flock of magpies were acting like they were mobbing something but I failed to find an owl or snake (didn't look that hard). It was nice to see magpies here as they are still not recovered from the impacts of West Nile Virus

Since I returned from an out of state trip late last week I have only found 1 Black Phoebe, an adult at on my friend's property east of Canon City. I birded the most easterly quarter mile by the McKenzie end of the Canon City Riverwalk and part of the Riverwalk from midpoint to the Sell's lake
