Amazingly, I just had a stub-tailed wren in my front yard in Niwot that
startled me when I opened my front door to look for the paper! It then flew
into a mass of brambles along the side of my house. I'm leaning towards a
Winter Wren based on a chip note I heard two minutes later that sounded like
Joe Roller reports a Pacific/Winter Wren at Norma's Grove, just east of county
roads 57 and 100 in Weld County. They are still trying to make a positive ID.

Today, at about 9 am, I heard a Winter/Pacific Wren sing several times in the
Wild Basin area of Rocky Mountain National Park, not far from Allenspark. I
heard the bird just north of the bridge that leads away from Calypso Cascades
towards Ouzel Falls.

I'm doing a little armchair birding today. I've listened to a couple of
recordings of the stub-tailed wren at Rampart Park in El Paso County, and
I'd like to put it out there that the bird calls like a PACIFIC WREN, not
like a Winter Wren as reported by many observers.

Today Jeff and I hiked to Bluebird Lake in RMNP. We passed by Calypso
Cascades, the location of the Stub-tailed Wren (STWR) as reported by Steve
