At 11:25 am today we were driving south just below Barr Lake & saw a Swainson's
Hawk perched on a telephone pole. When we stopped to be certain, we saw 2 more
circling above it going generally north, trailing black.

Hi Everyone-
I saw my FOS Swainson's Hawks today 4/5 along CO-52: one soaring near WCR 3
1/2, the other perched in a tree just east of the intersection with US-287.
This was on the way back from checking out the longspurs along CR KK in
Washington County: 20 Chestnut-collared, 10 McCowns. O
I went past the Little Gaynor Lake on Oxford Road east of 95th Street in Niwot
this afternoon, a number of ducks, including some spiffy looking Ruddy Ducks,
and then watched three immature Swainson's Hawks along 95th Street between
Oxford and Niwot Roads as they foraged for insects on the ground
There were two Swainson's Hawks on the west side of Mt Carbon this morning.
One was first seen on a rocky outcrop, took flight, and was joined by a
second one. Soaring together, perhaps a pair, wandered off southwesterly,
over the horse pasture at Simms & 285. I saw a single Swainson's one wee
I spotted 3 Swainson's Hawks today in different locations in Boulder
County. A sub-adult was sitting on N 63rd, just south of Nelson Road (west
of Longmont). Later, we found a pair sitting in a tree about a mile and a
half east of Niwot on Niwot Road.

This morning in the vicinity of University and Cresthill in Highlands
Ranch, I had the pleasure of watching a Swainson's Hawk circling and taking
long vertical dives, though never coming within more than 50 feet or so of
the ground. Another scan of the field he was above revealed the second

Greetings All,
In Washington, from where I just moved, we have had a recent mini-flurry (over
last 5-7 years) of February records for returning Swainson's Hawks. Probably 5
or so records in total, but since there were none before, a real jump.
During the last decade or so, small populations
While walking the Highline Canal yesterday around 6 PM I saw four Swainson's
along the canal south Quincy Ave in Greenwood Village. While watching two of
them mated and got on with life.
Not much more to report.

On my commute this morning so some behavior that is new for me in my
ten years of being up here. Six Swainson's Hawks roosting on a single
tree (the "famous (only) one" between WCR 27 and WCR 23 along WCR
100). Pics of them and other morning birds (Burrowing Owls (6 so far,
last year 25+) returni
"Our" pair of Swainson's was back at "their" nest for the 6th year
this morning, one sitting in the nest & the other on the rim. For
five years they have successfully fledged young from this nest. I saw
the first one sitting in a nearby cottonwood on April 13, & now both
are in control of t

While birding in extreme SW KS last Saturday, 26 Sept., I wandered briefly
into extreme SE CO, the little triangle of land that lies south of the
Cimarron River in Baca County. With less than 20 miles of birdable roads,
this area is typically a poor place to look for birds. On Saturday,
