I can reproduce this with anything that consumes CPU. Audacious doesn't
exhibit the behavior even under full CPU load.
Worst (another bug?) the sound player (most probably the sound
infrastructure) hangs under extreme loads, to the point of having to

I just reported bug 512598. I also see this "hanging" effect quite

Don'T know whether this is of any relevance but I've talked to some guys
on #ubuntu-x IRC channel and they asserted that, since the patch is
based on a new MESA which will cause graphics - 3D only, if I got it
correctly - to slow down to a horrid framerate.

I looked into the bug and there are two problems here:
a) metacity handles switch_window special by adding a implicit binding for
backwards that is the forward binding plus the "Shift" key (even if
switch_window_backwards is disabled) - this confuses compiz that tracks

I just wanted to mention a few things, since I had been involved with

I'm using a fresh Karmic install, no compiz, no visual effects, and I
*am* able to remap alt-shift-tab how I want (which is to lower the
focused window, rather than navigating), which I was previously unable
to do.
I can confirm this bug on Karmic. Michael, can you comment on it please?

This bug report does not seem to me to be related to the layout keyboard
conflict - as none of the workarounds actually work when you have the
layout switching set. I think this bug is a problem with Compiz (as
obviously disabling it works as a solution for some people).
