The problem here only occcurs in Impress, Blender and Yo Frankie game
(Blender game engine). The problem with Impress is urgent, it's an
absolutely necessary app.

Compiz already has a workaround plugin for this sort of things. I hope
we can get a workaround using that plugin prior to 11.04 release.

Sorry, as I mentioned earlier we have disabled the workaround in compiz
that made this work. The idea is to not enable it again as it is rather
buggy and causes windows to randomly get stuck in a pseudo-fullscreen
mode.
If this is getting fixed it is going to have to happen in OOo.

Erm ... You a) knew this problem exists (by having a workaround in
Compiz), b) now disabling that workaround because it also causes some
minor problems, and c) telling the OOo guys *afterwards* that their code
is buggy, leaving a large user base with a broken Impress Presenter? Not

a) I knew this problem existed in wine and some old and/or broken apps. Not
even the OOo devs knew this was broken because the workaround was fixing it for
them.
b) You dismiss the problems because this bug affects you and that bug didn't

Winjeel,
So you are saying 'Movie Player' Totem doesn't go full screen in Ubuntu
10.04 LTS (Lucid)? It seems to work for me, but if it is having problems
we need to verify this issue. The Compiz change was at least partially
to fix Totem.

An upstream compiz developer is working with an upstream OOo developer
to try to resolve this issue, it appears they aren't quite sure which
code is at fault. From recent comments on the bug it sounds like it
might not actually be fixed for 3.2.1 unfortunately, but should be done
in time for OOo
Are you kidding? So we are supposed to wait one year to have this issue
resolved? Ô_o

Another possible warkaround, if you don't want to disable compiz, is to enable
auto hide of the panels.
Of course if you start the presentation and go over a panel it will appear and
will cover the presentation, but I personally prefere that solution.

I would suggest all to wait for Compiz 0.9 release and then - if problem

This happens for me in 10.04. Worthy of mention is that if you have
openoffice.org-presenter-console installed then this also happens in the
fullscreen presenter console. As with the presentations, the screen gets
pushed down, with the result that the bottom of the screen is slightly
cut off
I hope I am not confusing things here ... My lucid 32 bit system (up to
date) suffered from the same problem. I'm creating presentations for my
lectures so it's a bit silly not being able to use a true fullscreen
presentation mode.
Now, I decided to remove the Ubuntu version of OO3.2 and
I fill the bug against this issue in Karmic, it happens in Totem and Eog

Patrick,
Yes unfortunately this is not fixed in time for final Lucid release, it
is even affecting officlal OOo at their website from what they have
indicated. But it is marked as a showstopper bug for upstream OOo 3.2.1
so hopefully will be able to be fixed for a 3.2.1 update to Lucid in the
upstream thinks they will have this fixed for at least gnome in time for
OOo 3.2.1, which I am going to try to get into Ubuntu 10.04.1

businesses and universities?
