Flash is OK for YouTube. It's wonderful for ads, since I use Flashblock.
Now I'm not distracted with flashing and blinking ads.
That raises an entirely different issue. If you take the content is it
okay for you to block the ads? If you don't like the ads maybe you should

There's no reason to use any kind of video in any format where static
data provides more information, faster, and is easier to load and
navigate. No more Trash with Flash!!
For a while Macromedia was running a similar campaign. There are many
very useful applications of Flash and MM was trying

It turns out that they were right. The Mac OS then was very reliable and

Thanks. The article confirms what I suspected when Jobs first described Time

Thanks too. I did not know about Dirvish. Yes it does look like Apple's
Time Machine is borrowing from this open source project.

We're approaching this from different angles. In the video world, .wmv is
most certainly a web standard. And it was long before .flv (Flash).
But that
has nothing to do with your complaint about porky animations on websites.
But again, once the Flash is loaded, you shouldn't experience

As much as you might not like to admit it, when an OS generates 92% of the
traffic on a website, that's a standard. 91% of that is Windows versions
that can play .wmv9 with no trouble. [stats pulled from my own community
website just now]
Yes, pro video people use wmv9 all the time these days for
The thing that makes developers run for Flash is MS's defective IE
browser. Flash is an easy way to program sophisticated user interaction
on a common platform across all browsers. The choices are either Flash or
AJAX/FJAX and Flash is more bullet proof.
The main requirement for the Internet
I am curious why in this day age T1 lines max out at 1.5Mbps while DSL
and cable speeds are many times faster.

Microsoft vs Apple.
In order to asertain whether a participant in this forums opinion is tainted
by the money motive. I would like to see a disclaimer from
anyone commenting on how good or bad apple or Microsoft are

I have a fund that holds Microsoft stock, no Apple. This clearly
influences my view of reality. I guess I should not go so easy on MS.

I can't help but say that the worst thing about Macs/OSX is the Dock.
Great operating system otherwise but whenever I am using OS X and
multi-tasking between programs, web pages, files etc, I am spending a
LOT of time struggling with the various windows... trying to find one I

Flash often enhances more than it detracts.
My reaction to the Flash you are not seeing is often Oh, cool.

I hear that complaint more then any other from mac usersI hate the

I'm very happy using Exposé gestures to view all windows or application
windows or desktop, and Command h or alt command h to clear up clutter.
And just clicking on an app in the dock to bring it forward is easy enough.
You can also option-click or right-click on Dock icons to hide and show

Patches are free. You will not be charged again intil X.6, which probably
won't be for 18 to 24 months.
For me the principal design strangeness is that the Dock shows you at a

Can email and addresses from Outlook Express (or Outlook) be easily exported to

Did briefly check it out and apparently is some limitation in replying to

My recollection is that it can indeed import from OE or Outlook. You
*might* have to export to standard address format, then import - I
never really used OE or Outlook before I went Mac.
I used it for 10+ years or so without any problems.
