Another one you might want to look at is the Panasonic DMC-FZ18.
It's
an 8.1 MP with an 18x optical zoom Leica lens. That's the equivalent
of a 35-504mm still camera zoom lens. It's movie function also works
fantastic. I just checked it out after reading this post
I forgot to mention the variable, camcorder-like LCD screen that the Canon
has. It can fold into the camera altogether and present the plastic back of
the screen, letting you use only the view finder.
I liked that feature over the fixed screen on the Panasonic. It helps

I'm going to do some research on this, but off the top of anyone's heads, are
there digital video cams with decent resolution stills? Our current JVC has an
SD card slot that captures stills at around 9x14 at 72 dpi. I'd like at
least 200-300 dpi. Thanks.
