Sounds like a hardware failure (likely has nothing to do with whatever was running when it failed). Can he get into the bios and sit there as long as he wants? Can he boot to a live cd and run an OS? Probably not worth repairing since the Win7 notebooks just hit the market at bargain prices. On

Probably not, because he'll be using the disks that came with the laptop and they usually include all that extra stuff by default. Not a big deal; just remove the extras later. But really, he now owns two doorstops. I wouldn't bother trying to get an old Win98 laptop to work. For one, it won't eve
