Does the card get detected correctly as WinTVGo?
I had to put 'options bttv card=10' manually in /etc/modules.conf
some time ago for my WinTV Go, though I don't remember if I got
similar errors or others.
I also had to put 'Load "v4l"' in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 of my
G400 card.

WinTVGo (bt878) and an ATI Radeon 32DDR under XFree86-4.0.3. xawtv runs, and
I get sound, but there is no picture, and there are error messages like so:
