Stew,
I believe you have incorrectly interpreted the message from Luis. The
way I read it, and the way I feel; it was a heartfelt tribute to the
tireless effort you have consistently put out for those of us in the PPC
world. It seems to me that you have pretty much been working on your
own, and w

Yeah I forgot to include that. The fact is Stew used to have a machine
he builds thi
I agree.
Again, my intention was not to attack anybody. Just making a point on
how slow things are for the PPC platform.

Stew,
Not to put words into Luis' mouth or anything, but I believe Luis was
referring to the problems YOU face; i.e., not having access to update
hdlists, not being able to remove unneeded packages from the PPC
distributions, etc. I believe I speak for most of the people on this list
when I say

There has to be some other reason why Stew can't have access to modify what
he needs to modify. If there isn't another reason why Mandrake is doing this
then it looks to me that they are shooting themselves in the foot. What
reason would they have not to have the best PPC distribution out there

I agree with this. It's sad to see how well organized and 'workable' is
the
i586 side of the Mandrake cooker tree.
I tried to maintain a mirror for us on the East side of the US at:
ftp://ftp.latinomixed.com/Mandrake-devel
and I constantly see how the i586 files get updated but the PPC ones ...

I have to heartily agree with Ben here.
One of the top rules for a developer is this: Let them do their job.
Right now, I see that this rule is being broken by the powers-that-be at
Mandrake. Stew doesn't need the world, he just needs his part. He should
be able to have all necessary abilities
Today I received my emailed copy of the Mandrake Community Newsletter
(if you didn't get a copy you can find it online here:
http://www.mandrakeforum.com/article.php?sid=2010&lang=en ).
In it was a quote from Stew talking about how 8.2/ppc was coming along.
But really (no offense to Stew) conside
Text mode is not that peculiar. You will find it infinitely more usable than a blurry X install.
Speaking of which, on a PowerMac 7300, the graphic installer is not usable. There is an interesting double-image weirdness going on. The machine uses platinum video (stock) and has a 17 inch Optiquest
I have tried all PPC distributions including Yellow Dog, Debian and SuSE
(currently using Debian), but I have yet to see any that was able to start
the installer without any custom boot parameters, in case you have a Apple
17" Studio Display. In my case the installer only works with the followi
Title: Graphic install on Dual G4
I tried to install Linux-Mandrake PPC 8.2B1 on a PowerMac G4 Dual 1 gig, the most recent one. I have a GeForce4 MX video card in it, and none of the video solution proposed by the graphic installer work. I get a blury screen absolutely unreadable. The nVidia
