when is ounces weight, and when is ounces volume?
e.g.
ounces of baking chocolate (not chocolate chips) ounces of pasta (weight or
volume) ounces of cheese when a package declaration is in
I've always heard ounces when talking about dry ingredients, so it's weight not
volume.

I forgot to mention that American ounces, cups, quarts and gallons are
slightly smaller than Canadian measurements. hth /D

There is 8 ounces in one cup for liquids. If you are measureing solids like
chocolate chips then there will be a slight variation. In Canada we use
metric so sometimes imperial to metric convertions make the actual quanity
of a substance slightly smaller or larger.

I'm sure someone has already answered your question, but a cup of butter is
2 sticks. A stick is a half cup.
