They are both serial flash devices and in theory, should work. I

This is why you need a seperate flash chip, so you can back up your working
system. Now you have to solder the chip off the motherboard, put it

I would like to recommend an AMD 785 board. Specifically the GIGABYTE
GA-MA785GM-US2H, as its only $70 ($85 when not on sale) USD which isn't exactly
that much for a relatively good motherboard.
The board doesn't work out of the box with coreboot with similar boards
selected nor officially supp
ight spark some attention as well.

Hi, The SPI should be on 0x8, not 0x7, as that is the VID. I double checked the
datasheet and came across this while working on the coreboot port for my board.
This is a follow-up for the initial F71889 support for superiotool.

Hello, I looked over the F71889 Fintek datasheet, and its very similar to the
F71863FG I noticed. I used sed to replace some of the names around and such. I
haven't tested it, nor will I, since I have little to no experience with
flashing devices, and have no back-up (can't recover) and I do hav

Works and tested on f71889fg super IO (motherboard MS785GT-E63)
