Yeah, wordpress and drupal solutions are generally the way to go. Wordpress + buddypress can be used to good effect. The drupal commons distribution is pretty neat too. http://acquia.com/products-services/drupal-commons As for facebook, be sure to create a page as opposed to a group. And feed
