Always a delight reading your posts Alex!
I'd be very interested to know what's the general view about cases when the
government goes even further and sets up a government funded, and possibly
run, coworking space. We find many places where the subsidies are so high
that it becomes impossible
There are a few members who give them to me each year, and the money paid is in
the rent column. Some of my members do pay by check. I always chalk it up to
coworking running up against traditional accounting rules. If they want to
issue, let them issue.

Can you cite an example?
Every example that I know of has struggled to build a community and suffers
from high turnover and culture issues.
Worse, the existence of the subsidized desk share whatevers makes all of the
nearby independent operators panic and do stupid things, which hurts
I think I may know, but I'm not positive:). Here's some history. Our firm
(Emergent Research) started do a U.S. coworking survey starting in 2008
with an estimate for 2007. Our counts for the U.S. for 2007 to 2010 can be

know where to exactly put this' form. A 1099 form shouldn't be required for
services like coworking because a receipt is issued and it's on the user to
provide proof. That being said, if they ask it's easy to issue them a
Yes. Whenever we have larger companies, or an employer pays for a member,
we get a 1099. Just be sure your income reflects that amount for taxes.
Since it's only one member, you certainly have more income than that one

If your company is an LLC or a Sole Proprietor you should get 1099 from all of
your members. The reason you probably don’t is tied to how the member is
handling their taxes. The smaller the company the less likely they are
investing in getting it done properly. For years we didn’t issue 1099
Hey! Just wanted you (and the others that posted after you) to know that I
tweeted Jay to see if the map was still being updated, and how to get
listings added. The response from @coworkingmap: yes the map is still being
updated (manually). Best way to add your space is to give us a heads up
