[css-d] A simple 2 column, but with ability to expand horizontally

n/sidebar where the 'menu' items will go - a 'header' section, and the main content column. A footer would be nice, but is not mandatory. But it's this fluid expansion to the right that seems to be the issue. I'd be grateful for any poin
