When I try to edit /etc/hosts with vim7, it gives this error:

short answer to your question whether Cygwin supports backlinking as you
expect in most *nix environments is _no_.

Basically, no, I haven't been able to reproduce it outside of Jabberd.
Then again, I don't have a lot of custom source to compile/use. My
simple test program (the one which loaded a DLL which in turn did a
fork()) worked fine, but that was an uber-simple app.
Jabberd fires up
Ha, now I saw a thread dump in bash console. Unfortunately it kills
immediately the java app. In RXVT I see a single new line with i
printed and the app is killed.
My $CYGWIN is nontsec nosmbntsec. Java is run from SDK as you do. My
cygwin is latest, too (just updated again).

of cygserver, I get absolutely nothing. Same thing on XP
(using that now) and Windows98. filemon says that no other files than
cygwin1.dll are opened while my program is running.
I feel completely lost here and have no idea what I could check to find an
error.

The only thing I can think to do now is add a bunch of environment vars
to the cygrunsrv line, but not sure what could possibly be needed by
cygrunsrv to kill a process. Only thought I have left.
