Hi,
When I try to run the command:
XWin -query smpd9 -fp tcp/smpd9:7100 -from a217447
that brings up the solaris xdmcp session if I'm running XFree86 on win XP/2K
or NT. But if I try to run
I'm just wondering:
I can't get links in graphics mode to work in a cygwin/xfree
session (I'm using cygwin/xfree only to turn Windows PCs
int X-terminals). Maybe the problems are related?

tar -xyvf nedit-5.3RC1-source.tar.gz -C /urs/src
If you didn't make a typo in the mail, /urs should be
/usr.
I'd try
tar xzvf nedit-5.3RC1-source.tar.gz -C /usr/src
^ ^^
Cheers

127.0.0.1 (localhost) is just a reference to your own computer, it's
supposed to be that way. You shouldn't have to change anything in your
configuration to fix that part.
I have been using Cygwin for the last 4 months now and find it reasonably
good to use, however.
I have been having continuous problems getting it to connect to the server
box.
The configuration is Server: Redhat 7.2 (was7.1) running xdm Win2K Server.
Sometimes it will connect sometimes it
I think all us from europe should try to get together and get the NLS

would really make a breakthrough on this side of the Atlantic ;-) - if I
find some time I will try to sketch out the basics

I have succesfully installed cygwin/xfree and when attempting to use XWin
with XDM for solaris even using the -fp tcp/box:7100, I get a creen that is
grey with a X as the cursor. Can anyone help on what I am doing wrong? I
have attached 2 snapshots
Nothing wrong so far. Your X has started

Edi,
Actually, you don't need the -from parameter anymore. It usually doesn't
even help when you have multiple network card, if I recall correctly.
Thanks. But we're still running

Yes, that's a nice one.
On W2k it takes minutes to get de xdm login screen, while eating a lot of
CPU time. Everyting you do from then is slow and CPU expensive.
The W2k boxes have SP2 installed.
What is SP2? I have experienced speed problems with win98 which went away

If you are using IPX, and I think you have told me so, the Novell client
resets the order for the name resolution . Usually the timeout is about 1-2
minutes. Could you try to uninstall the whole novell client with IPX on a
client?
I think I've tracked down the problem to a ATI graphic card
For me (emacs/mew, mozilla, konqueror) it does.

Are you connected through dialup, or some sort of WAN? X doesnt work too well
across long distances... even if there is a lot of bandwidth... it's a latency
Hello,
sorry if this is a bit off-topic but I was unable to find information in
the mailing-list archives/Howtos.
I have a linux server (Mandrake 8.1) and several Windows clients
running cygwin/xfree-4.1 (plus one linux client). On some of the win98 clients,
XDMCP is *extremely* slow so it
