I have just gone to the latest cygwin (I needed the latest ImageMagick
dicom conversion)
But now when I try startx or startxwin.bat, I get a white dialog box
with an X in the top corner and nothing else happens (I cannot type into
the box).
Any ideas on what I have set up incorrectly?

I am having trouble starting the cygwin xfree server.
I was running cygwin in e:/cygwin
I deleted this via the setup program
I installed cygwin in c:/cygwin.
At this stage XServer was working but not bash.
I went back into setup and reinstalled bash.
Bash now works.

i want to use the x server for doing remote XDMCP onto my linux servers.
i click onto the original cygwin icon on the desktop and get a shell.
there i type:
/usr/X11R6/bin/XWin.exe -query roylewis

I use a Cygwin Xserver on Windows for Xterms. Now I have to access a
remote desktop using VNC. I find that if I open both, they conflict.
For example, if you do a copy/paste operation, both of them hang. Is
there any information on this? I need to use both of them at the same
time.

Have you included the PATH additions mentioned in startxwin.bat befor

You need to use the "-dpi 100" option for XWin.exe. I would suggest
doing that first from a Cygwin bash shell to try it, then edit your
startup script to add the option permanently.

winsock2 API. And that tends to improves x11perf about score 5%-150%.

You could also try an X11 VNC client. Cygwin Ports provides TigerVNC,

(10802000) Build Date: 2010-08-06. I am a little hesitant to try out

What do you mean *to* multiple clients *from* X server? Unless you mean
some kind of session manager, it works the other way, a client (like
xterm) connects to the server.

If you need Cygwin everytime you use your PC, consider the following

I just ran setup and upgraded to the new cygwin and something has broke. I
was able to run this command before,
xwin :0.0 -clipboard -query 13.142.6.222 -fp tcp/13.142.6.222:7100
and I would get the login screen of the Solaris 10 XServer and I was able to
login. Now, I get the

I just upgraded my system to the latest XFree (4.3.0-4, I believe). In my
startxwin I had an xset fp+ to add the truetype fonts directory to the font
path (which I never got working...perhaps this is a hint, but...)
With the latest bits the Xserver core dumps shortly after the xset fp+
happens
That happend after updating last night:
If I start xinit from a .bat-file from Windows only the Xserver starts and
shuts down some seconds later and no xterm appeared before.
If I start xinit from cygwin-terminal everything works fine and even
the whole .bat-file.
I need that for an easy way
