Dear friends,
I wanted to let you know that on April 17, my grandmother (Salome) Felicia
Baker (née Horn) died after a short illness at the age of 91. She was born
on January 27, 1932 in Czernowitz to Benno and Anna Horn (née Spieler). She
survived deportation to Transnistria and Bershad, although

Hi everyone,
For those who have been in touch with Zoya, do you know if there's anything
we can do to help her specifically? Does she have any current needs
concerning housing, food, clothes, etc? I met her quite a few years ago
now, but she was a truly wonderful guide and I'd love to support her
Dear all,
Just to add my experiences, I applied for Romanian citizenship in mid-2018
based on my grandmother's birth in Czernowitz. I had official, certified
records from the Czernowitz archives confirming that her birth is
registered in the Cznernowitz birth registry. After 2.5 years of waiting,
be one of the lucky ones and report back.

Dear Karin,
I would strongly recommend using a law firm. I am using one in Romania
called Darie, Manea and Associates, and have been happy with the service.
In my experience, without a fluent knowledge of Romanian the process is
impossible to navigate. Note that the process is long - even after

Dear friends,
I recently acquired a small book of Yiddish poetry (really more of a
pamphlet) that was published in Czernowitz in 1934 by the "Czernowitzer
Bleter" press. The book is called simple "27 songs" (27 Lider) and is by
Leyb Druker - perhaps a pen-name? The book appears to be signed by the
Dear Edgar,
Thank you very much for this. Benno Horn was my great-grandfather (I am a
cousin of Peggy) - I had never seen this wonderful photo of him before. I
have had a bit of a look through the DiFMOE portal, and it is indeed a
treasure trove. I've found some amazing things, including an articl
Dear Alan,
I am currently going through the process of reclaiming Romanian
citizenship. I am using the law firm Darie, Manea and Associates (
https://www.rolegal.com/). They are based in Bucharest and speak English. I
have found them to be reasonably priced and very helpful. They assisted me
