Which platform (Windows or Linux) will give darktable work better on?
Linux!!!
I am using a 9 year old Dell XPS i7 gen 2 (sandy bridge) (8 cores total)
- 8GB RAM and PopOS 20.04 that I upgraded to few weeks ago. And I prefer
to use this machine compared to Dell Precision - Windows 10

I need Windows to run I programs I use for work. I plan to set up a Linux
computer as well one day just for GIMP and Darktable. However, I can not
compare to Linux but Darktable works really well on Windows.

Hi,
for some time now i have been wondering why the fields export height and
width in the module image information are empty - for all my images.
What should be displayed there and how can I activate it if necessary?
(no mention of this in the manual

You are correct that the above line removes the dirty t
Yes, I have built and run darktable under WSL (versions 1 and 2) most
recently with Ubuntu 20.04 installed and xfce4 as window manager. There is
a major drawback and that is that OpenCL is not available, as, being on
what is essentially a virtual machine, linux doesn't directly 'see' the
graphics
In June a German language book on Darktable has been published.
Michael Moltenbrey: So geht das in Darktable 3

Is there someone out there who has already read it and can send us his
comments about it?

Has anyone tried running darktable on Windows under WDSL (which provides a
linux environment on Windows). I haven't bothered, because I run Linux on
main laptop, and only have a small Windows machine for running some
proprietary software for which there is no linux alternative.

Linux, why do you want to hurt yourself using Windows anyway :)

A particular issue is printing: the CUPS printing facility doesn't work
under Windows.
So under W10, you need to export (ie as a tiff) then print with 3rd party
software.
This may turn out to be an advantage or not: Canon, in their infinite
wisdom, does not support open source, so you would need t
Linux. It is the main development platform and pretty much the whole
ecosystem (such as libraries which are used) are deeply rooted in the
FOSS/Linux community as well.

My understanding is that darktable started life as Linux software, but I know
it is now available on Windows as well. I have the flexibility to install
darktable in Windows (10) or Linux (debian). My assumption was that darktable
would be more reliable and the user interface would work better
