I'm responding partially to the original post in this thread, and
additionally, to newcomers in general to darktable.
Darktable has a seductive, dangerous complexity. At least dangerous to
newcomers. Lots of newbies feel they have to immediately use every module
in the book. They are captured by

I have been reading this, and any number of other threads and asking myself

Work with drawn masks for now. They offer tremendous power when combined
with a very few modules. As you learn, branch out one module at a time or
one feature at a time.

sharpen this but not that ,so grain is not amplified all over - adjust

Play with brightness AND contrast. This module can do a lot.

Why not just draw a mask, feather it and use brightness and contrast? Then

Once one has heard that there are keyboard shortcuts to get rid of the
April 1 gag, it is fine. Perhaps it would be a good idea to include
information to that effect with the black screen.
I have very mixed feelings here; Darktable is an amazing program and the
devs are gods as far as I'm
The Linux renamer I use is PyRenamer.

But I also have a native linux renaming utility... I just can't remember

I often use drawn masks, since those areas that "want" sharpening emphasis
often are limited and easy to define.
