Any specific reason why there is no edma driver?

Hi, I am starting to write an edma driver that can be accessed from user mode (I need to do some fast/large memory to memory transfers). Is there any logical reason why this has not been implemented in the montavista release? I just don't want to hit a wall in the next few days... Thanks!
