The libgtk1.2 package from unstable, libgtk1.2_1.2.8-3.0.1, is unusable:
error while loading shared libraries:
/usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0: undefined symbol: lstat
This problem will prevent ANY program dynamically linked with GTK+
from running.

To all folks who have been helping me with problem before,
but with the v2.4.1 kernel, I just tried the v 2.4.2 kernel and it got further.
The system actually booted this time. The following is evidence of the
fact that it booted:
