Hi,

I think that the floppy has the same problem.
Has somebody any idea about ?
Add the ide and floppy modules in your initrd or in /etc/modules

Looking back a bit I see you were asking about a clean way to install

If you want you can try my nvidia-update:

I decided to install an (K)ubuntu chroot on my Debian AMD64 system, because
that solves two issues for me:

As I learned on the ACPI mailing list, vbetool indeed cannot operate on an

Hi Frank,
are you sure about having installed all neccessary packages?
The log file looks like you forgot to install any fonts.
Perhaps you should try to bind-mount /tmp, /proc, tmpfs and /dev, too.

Hi Christoph,
you are correct, I forgot to install the xbase-fonts package.
Should have been a dependency though, if the xserver doesn't start without it.

Thank you,
Frank

Hello again;
We just got confirmation from someone at freenode that this problem
exists with other chips as well (saa7134, in this case), so it's not
chip dependent. It seems to be confined to x86_64 and 2.6.15, though.

Hello,
next week I will try to install debian-amd64 on a new computer
with a nvidia graphic card (7800GTX).
I don't really like these closed source drivers from ati and
nvidia, but I think I have to use it.
I have just done some google search about debian and nvidia
drivers. Some people

Well,
I did not read any of the refered pages yet. I did not know why I should.

I did it this way:
