I'm trying to reinstall Debian amd64, but I can't find a CD that will
actually install properly.
I've tried the 24th October (2 days ago) version of the netboot iso.

I also tried the monolith version from the
I seem to be having problems when configuring my disk setup during the
net install for sarge amd64.
I'm trying to configure /home to be an MD within an LVM container.
Although the install can configure it, when I've rebooted the install,
and installed evms, then it seems the LVM container has
.
I previously tried a sid repository and had less luck - more packages
seemed to be broken!
Any help? Cheers!

Any further suggestions you feel you can make are welcome.
I'll post any concrete results or questions I have back to the list
thread.
I'm assuming I should ensure that all filesystems are clean
uncorrupted before trying to add a raid device (add my spares onto the
active raid).

that particular problem. The machine now gets as far as X
(Gnome) and into Evolution as well hitting no apparant problems.
Can I get some help in trying to sort this mess out?
Much appreciated! So much to learn, so little time!

No you don't. You should set CC.
I did
I was running the install script for vmware5, it complained that my
kernel was compiled using gcc 3.4 and my current gcc is version 3.3.5.
I did not compile my current kernel, I installed it (smp version)
through apt-get, so the error msg could well be true.
I tried to install an updated gcc,
vanilla kernel tree which is being symlinked to is what
the vmware install script can't read. Should I have both the k8-smp
kernel headers and the vanilla headers installed, or are the current
kernel-headers faulty??

it explains how to compile and install nvidia drivers on debian-amd64.

I've installed amd64 firefox through apt-get.
Then I tried to update the browser themes through the mozilla site which
complained that my browser version was not sufficient. (I need to
upgrade to version 1.0.4 before using the Mozilla update site)
Indeed, my version seems to be 1.0.3. Since I
://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian-amd64/debian/dists/sarge/
which is a different path from the one enabled in sources.list, so
what's going on here??

way, I'm new to Debian (more used to Redhat,
Mandrake). Is compiling a kernel under Debian much the same thing, or
are there docs for Debian kernel compiles?

necessary files for nvidia support and (optionally) the Gnome (or KDE)

Does the net install CD only install the kernel/progs/IA32 chroot etc
and leave you to install anything further such as workstation desktop
etc?
