The most recent /etc/init.d/apache2 has a for-loop to clear the environment
starting at line 6:
for envkey in `env| cut -d'=' -f1`
do
unset $envkey
done
This causes problems, since my root's environment has a multiline entry
(TERMCAP) starting like:
tag 258602 pending
