I can confirm the "no icon on desktop" bug. I've run gnome-volume
manager from a terminal. No erros appear, the usb stick (or ipod) get
mounted, an icon is created in computer:// (not on the desktop), but

I finally find what is the error. It seems that the installation procedure of xserver-xorg configure my layout as "fr-latin9". XkbLayout only work with "fr" for my keyboard. It is strange because on my laptop "fr-latin9" works.

ioctls breaks quite important things (ioctl(fd, TIOCDRAIN) for
instance...).

Recommends: httpd bind9
line. The new dpkg seems to be much stricter on such lines.

You shouldn't need to do "/etc/init.d/network restart", just put
"allow-hotplug eth0" (or whatever your interface is called) in
/etc/network/interfaces.
