Yes, it's completely off. Among know to me ways to "on" it is rebooting and switch off/on laptop. Neither "esc" or anything else can help. (Maybe it's gnome bug?) And all this when "Do nothing" in gnome's power management is set. I think the screen should be "on" in this mode, when lid is close
