This is surely related, so I'm posting here.
I recently moved from Squeeze to Wheezy and found that closing Eclipse
would leave its Java process sleeping in memory.
Looking for a solution I've found this, which seems to be quite an old
bug related to AT-SPI:

I might have just found the cause of this problem, at least in my case.
I had a fresh install of Squeezy, and I needed to add an udev rule.
Exploring the distro, I found in Gnome's menu
System -> Administration -> Services
that udev was unchecked. I thought I needed to enable it there (an
