Good news,
Recently began having problems with dvd symlinks.
Bug #323282 provided a suggestion by Anders E. Andersen to rm -r
/etc/udev (after making a backup copy for local rules), purge the the
udev package, reinstalling udev. Once I had done this rebooted the
symlinks
udevmonitor and/or enabling events logging in hotplug.rules will help
verifying this.
If the results are still not useful, then just add to the top of the
script something like touch /dev/some-flag-file which is a simple way
to determine if the script is being run or not.

After installation of pcmciautils my orinoco pcmcia card refused to work.
Following a suggestion in bug #343193, cardmgr was successfull in
recovering the wireless network.
