I have exactly the same bug. A friend of mine who uses Gentoo has this bug
after the latest update too, so I think it is a bug in the upstream package,
because the changed the bind_policy.
I have found a little workaround to be able to boot the system again:

yes I have framebuffer support compiled into my kernel (radeonfb). That was not
the problem. The problem was that I have configured
the "crux" theme which uses JPEG images. I now changed back to the default
theme and it wor
g in again. Somehow the GUI is not recognize that the
directory has changed. A refresh does not help. With NFSv3 I did not
have problem.

I can comfirm the problem described by Florimond.
But I am using a different Kopete package:

This package is not from an official Debian mirror. But I get exactly the same
behaviour. Maybe it is a bug in the upstream package from KDE.

this setting is lost now. Same as already described before. So please reopen

I tried the first workaround:
- Started Kmail and deactivated IMAP resources.
- Closed Kmail and waited until all kio_imap4 processes disappeared from
process list.
- Started Kontact. No problems. Closed Kontact.
- Started Kmail. Activated IMAP resources.
- Closed Kmail and waited until al

I have this problem on my laptop (ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with radeon driver)
and on desktop (ATI Radeon 9800SE with radeon or fglrx
driver).
When I cancel splashy during boot with ESC, the corruption does not occur.
