While direct connectors and odbc currently don't work, jdbc remains as a
last resort.
For all companions in misfuture, as there are many details to miss a
successful setup, a short summary:
1) apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
2) Download "mariadb mariadb-connector-j" from
https://mariadb.co
Hallo again,
sad news from "mysql-connector-linux_4-3_x86_64.oxt", I just run into
the problem, that it is unable to WRITE more than 96 chars into a TEXT
field, either directly using base's table view or via a text control on
a form. Trying so, you'llĀ get a "HY000 2006" error from mysql
(mariadb)

fields in existing applications made with libreoffice base show garbage
text like this:

I would really try to dig into this (identify the relevant cause(s) ), but
don't know how to manage that in a deftly manner.
