enabling tcp_listen=1 removes 'nolisten tcp' optin from X server, but modern
Xorg seems require explicit '-listen' option to actually listen on tcp port, so
it is very hard to pass it.

Tried to:
1) run with empty profile
2) do apt-get dist-upgrade just now, restart - doesn't help
it seems to be freezing during rendering of the websites, seems like
eventually running out of some resource and java-script heavy sites
freeze it very soon.

Severity shouldn't be grave - it's still possible to use the application -
you can specify the update interval manually, in the command line.
Package still usable and many users use it, I don't want it to be excluded
form archive!

as a regression in alsamixer. Even amixer works well.

If the bug is still present, could you please test the latest upstream
version 0.9.21 and this does not help open a ticket upstream [3]. You
seem to know OProfile so you can probably find the reason with
upstream’s help.
I workarounded this problem by pinning old pulseaudio from etch
