i've renamed the /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-cpufreq (disabled it) and now it
boots smoothly :-)

so i nerrowed it down, but can i figure it more deeply ?
and also... i can r disable acpi_freq and freq_table modules from loading ?
because i think i get the same crash from those models too.
i did as you suggested... booting into single mode and here's what happend:
just loading hald from the command line immediately crashes (hard rest!) the
laptop. (not switching init to run level 6 !)
booting again. starting hald with strace loads it with no crash ! :-) and
continuing to load
i've disabled powersaved, and still... just after hald...reset!
also, i disabled acpi from loading in the kernel's commandline with no
success.
how can i get hald to send verbose debug messages ?

I'm new to debian (it's my first install) . i used fedora for years, but it
didn't install well on this laptop i got. and debian (net install) did great.
until i started it without the ac power cable...
i tried disabling the acpi on the kernel's command line acpi=off but it didn't
help.
