Works for me, now.
After fiddling around a little more I noticed that I had no plugins activated
under Tools > Plugin Manager.
(I thought that was what Edit > Plugin Preferences was for... Silly me.)

There is no Markdown preview for .md files, I have made sure that the filetype
is Markdown source file.
