The problems you're experiencing sound suspiciously similar to the
Debian's bug #405109 [0], aka upstream bug #1096 [1]. It should be
fixed in the latest version of the ipw3945 driver, I'm CC'ing the
maintainer to see if he might have any insights.

on my DELL Inspiron 6400 the boot process hangs after executing
/etc/init.d/ipw3945d when the kill switch is on (that means radio has
been disabled).
Even when I turn the radio on again (set kill switch to off) the system

stderr.old if they are bigger than 2 MB. So those four files should'nt
occupy more than 8 MB of disk space. I don't think that we need additional
logfile rotation.

You're abolutely right. On 2.6 sytems we are using udev for
identification now so it doen't make sense to use a script placed in
/lib/alsa-utils.
Does that mean that I better remove the alsa-utils package?

I just found out that the line mentioned above comes
from /usr/share/file/magic.mime which belongs to libmagic1. That package is
installed as version 4.17-1.
Maybe the bug should be reassigned.

I just upgraded the kernel on my AMD machine and had the same problems.
Adding the modules amd74xx, ide-generic and ide-disk to the
/etc/yaird/Default.cfg and
hdparm /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma= 0 (off)

Hmm, even after upgrading ifupdown to 0.6.6 ist still doesn't want to start
my hotplug interface eth0 automagically - it is visible in `ifconfig -a` but
the dhcp-client doesn't want to start. Only a `ifup eth0` brings up the
interface.
