The module rt2800usb didn't get loaded when I plugged in my Asus USB-N53 wifi
dongle. Also loading it manually with modbrobe didn't help. I had to set the
option "rt2800usb - Include support for unknown (USB) devices
(RT2800USB_UNKNOWN)" in the
