thanks for the answer. That actually fixes the problem. :)
I still think this issues needs fixing. Please make the package honor
settings in /etc/default/varnish so new varnish users don't have to go
through outages on package updates.
At least document it in the unit file with a comment.

When using systemd its hard to change the port varnish listens on. In our
case we want it to listen on port 80.
You have to edit /lib/systemd/system/varnish.service as all other config
options I found are simply ignored.
