console and saying ifconfig showed that networking actually was
configured correctly. Repeating the auto-configuration attempt mostly
yielded a failure, only on one attempt it said succeeded.

to the documentation of the function 'tex-file' which I
use to run the LaTeX command(s), and it also severely breaks my usage of
LaTeX (it worked up to the emacs-snapshot between emacs21 and emacs22).
Viewing the .dvi file matching the buffer breaks in the same way.
