After a dist-upgrade (etch) in the last days I can't reproduce this bug anymore
-neither with the usb-memory of my mobile phone nor with the cdrom.

Current gcin will FTBFS in Sid's hppa, sparc, and ia64.
Upstream author has acknowledged this problem.

It works well in my Sid desktop. Gcin's postinst script does not create
en_US in /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d. I think that
would fall back silently, ignore everything in odbc.ini,
