Claudio, I retried the 1.5 with 2.16.11: no problem, so *it's* a kernel
upgrade matter or, if you prefer, call it as an incompatibility between
1.5 sources and 2.6.14 kernel ;-)
BTW, is there any reason to not have the latest (1.6 1.7) sources
