I do not know about such a thing but am not quite sure what you call
a schema? Does it match one of database, table or view?
It's a database. The MySQL Administrator calls it a Schema.
If so, just issue a SHOW TABLES; etc in the command line client or
look into /var/lib/mysql/

really went away after you tried to

After installing mysql-server I created a schema for testing, called test.
I dropped it again using the mysql-admin, but after some time, it reappears.
It's empty, but it's back again. I removed it now for about half a dozen
times.
